Things to consider before installing a new boiler

Are you thinking about getting a new boiler? Keep reading to find out all the questions you should ask yourself, to make sure you end up with the best one for your home.

Which boiler manufacturer is right for you?

There are a lot of different boiler manufacturers available, so make sure you are aware of what is out there. Large boiler manufacturers may charge slightly more, but you are paying for their reputation and brand name- which is a sign that they are worth the money. You need to think about what is your boiler priority, for example, do you want a boiler with a warranty? A high-quality boiler? A cheap boiler? Sadly it is hard to find a boiler that offers it all, so you need to choose what is most important to you.

What type of boiler does your home need?

For smaller homes, combi boilers are the best option. They only require a boiler unit and heat water and when you need it. They operate from mains water but struggle to meet a high demand for hot water. For larger homes, you should consider a system or conventional boiler, as they both can meet a high demand for hot water. They require slightly more space for their water tanks and storage cylinder, so make sure you have available loft space. Every type of boiler has different pros and cons, so make sure you are looking for one that meets all of your needs. Every boiler you look at will feature condensing technology, meaning you don’t need to worry about it being inefficient.

Where will you boiler go?

New boilers are commonly wall mounted and hidden in kitchen cupboards. This is a great way to keep it out of sight and out of mind, as well as freeing up some space. However, this isn’t suitable for every home, so consider other places such as airing cupboards or laundry rooms. If your boiler requires components, you need to ensure you have enough space for these to fit.
